Durham Police investigating suspicious death

DURHAM Friday night, officers found a man lying on the floor of his basement in the 1300 block of Shepherd Street.

Family members say the victim was 41-year-old Trevor Spain. Authorities have not named any suspects, but they say they don't think the incident was a random crime.

"He was well know in the community, wasn't nothing you could ask him that he wouldn't do," Spain's cousin Rayvon Gray said. "He mentored kids at the church. He was a trustee at Morehead Baptist Church, which he loved."

He was also class president of Durham High's class of 1986.

"He was a person that was full of love, full of love, and he a strong gift of administration, pulling things together, just making things happen," Spain's friend Kimberely Thompson said.

Police won't say how or what happened, but family members say they were told there were no signs of forced entry and that Spain may have know the suspect or suspects. There were also two tvs missing.

"This was just, just unexpected, you know, just senseless," Gray said. "So if anybody has any information on the whereabouts of this person who done that, we would definitely appreciate you letting law enforcement know about that."

Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Cpl. N. M. Cloninger at 560-4440 ext. 245, or CrimeStoppers at 683-1200.
