Easley names two officials to utilities panel

RALEIGH Easley says that outgoing Crime Control and Public Safety Secretary Bryan Beatty and Attorney Susan Rabon will fill vacancies on the panel.

The commission regulates the state's telecommunications, electric and natural gas markets.

Rabon is currently senior assistant for administration and previously served under Easley when he was attorney general.

Beatty has been the crime control and public safety secretary since Easley became governor in 2001. He was formerly the director of the State Bureau of Investigation.

The Legislature must confirm the appointments, but Beatty and Rabon will be able serve on the panel until the confirmation.
