Salyer was thrown from the bike and killed at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.
According to the police report, excessive speed was a factor. Salyer was going 75 mph in a 45 mph zone.
The driver of the SUV, 41-year-old William John Johnston of Raleigh, was not injured.
Police say the motorcycle was owned by Spencer Davis of Greenville, TN.
No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
