Man flashes kids at bus stop

JOHNSTON COUNTY Officers charged 42-year-old Neal Jeffrey Bass of Joyner Street, Clayton Wednesday morning.

According to investigators, 911 operators got a call about a man standing next to a barn near the Broadmore Subdivision around 8:30 a.m. The caller said the man was exposing himself.

A group of about seven children ages 5 to 10 were standing at a school bus stop nearby, but detectives don't think they actually spotted what Bass was allegedly doing.

According to court records, Bass was charged with attempted second-degree rape in 1990 but was found guilty of a lesser offense of assault on a female. That same year he was also convicted of indecent exposure, and again in 1994.

"The safety of our students takes top priority. As superintendent, I would like to commend the good citizen who cared enough about our students to check on their safety and contact law enforcement. We hope that other citizens will exercise this same vigilance when they suspect that any of our students are in potential danger,” Dr. Ed Croom, Superintendent of Johnston County School said
