Sources initially told ABC11 he had injuries consistent with an assault, but they later said it appeared he hurt himself falling out of bed.
Officials say they moved him from the prison hospital back to his cell on Monday.
The disgraced financier is serving a life sentence at the federal prison in Butner after admitting to cheating investors out of billions of dollars.
