The accident happened just after 2 a.m., when a car headed down Wade Avenue flipped over. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Authorities had to block off an area near Dixie Trail while crews worked to clean up the mess and restore power.
Investigators said later Thursday that 21-year-old Matthew Lawrence Weidner, of Evanshire Dr. in Cary, was travelling at an estimated 100 mph eastbound on Wade in a 1999 Audi when he lost control.
The posted speed limit in that stretch is 35 mph.
There were no other passengers in the vehicle.
Weidner faces DWI and reckless driving charges.
