Fayetteville Police say Darnell Lewis Jr., 19, is a suspect in the Nov. 23 robbery in the parking lot of a business located at 5520 Raeford Rd. Police say an individual stopped at the gas station to make a purchase. While the victim was in the parking lot, the suspect entered the back seat of the victim's car and held a gun to the victim's head while demanding money. The suspect pulled the trigger several times but the gun did not go off. The victim was able to escape, but the suspect fired shots that struck a nearby SUV. No one was injured during the shooting. The suspect escaped in the victim's car, which was later found in the Target parking lot on Skibo Road.
Lewis faces charges of attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, larceny of a motor vehicle, and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Detectives say Lewis is also a suspect in the robbery of a convenience store the next day. Around 3 p.m. two suspects came after an employee at the Alco Convenience Store located at 8385 Cliffdale Rd. as she was handling money. The suspects fired a gun, and a single bullet struck a window, but no one was injured during the robbery. The suspects fled the scene in a silver Dodge Charger.
A warrant has been issued for Lewis in connection with the robbery. He faces additional charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, robbery with a dangerous weapon, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and conspiracy.
Lewis, who lives on the 6400 block of Wilson Ave., is described as a 5' 8'' black male weighing 150 lbs. He was last seen wearing a red and white hooded sweatshirt. He has tattoos of dog paws on his forearms. Anyone with information is asked to contact 911 or Crime Stoppers at (910) 483-TIPS(8477).
