Health officials say flu season typically peaks during January and February. That mean they are encouraging people to get vaccinated now.
For the first time, every WakeMed employee is now required to get a flu shot, which means 8,500 employees will have to get the vaccine

The flu is being blamed for three deaths this month.
DHHS says the patients are from eastern North Carolina and were at increased risk for influenza complications because of underlying medical conditions.
Another way to stay protected from what's circulating this year is to wash your hands with soap and water for at least 30 seconds.
It's never too late to get a flu shot. The vaccine can offer some protection in as early as two weeks.
If you're a little squeamish about needles, you could get a nasal spray. It provides the same protections as the vaccine. You must qualify for that, so just check with your doctor.
