CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Co-workers of the elderly Cary man murdered over the weekend are still trying to come to grips with his sudden and violent death.
Luciano Andia may have been 72 years old, but his colleagues say he was full of life. He even worked two jobs.
Andia was waiting in his car for his shift to begin in the parking lot of the Dollar Tree at High House Road and Highway 55 in Cary Saturday morning.
His job at the Dollar Tree was just one of two that Andia worked to support his family.
Investigators say he was randomly targeted for robbery while waiting in that parking lot, and then shot to death.
"Death is always such a hard thing but when it's so random and senseless and unexpected it's just like a double-whammy," said Fred Wyand.
Wyand was Andia's co-worker at the American Sexual Health Association in Research Triangle Park.
That's where Andia often operated the phone to help people in the war on sexually transmitted diseases.
Now, the chair at his cubicle is empty and his desk is covered with flowers.
Police have charged 53-year old Dwight Blount with Andia's murder. Blount has already served three stints in prison including one for second-degree murder.
"It's something you really can't explain. You don't know what was in the mind of the person that did this at that time so it's very difficult to grasp," another co-worker Juan Aviles told ABC11.
Both Aviles and Wyand said Andia was all about family.
"Two of his great passions in life were taking care of his family and then taking care of his work family as well. He would always go the extra mile to try and prep so that he could just do a superb job," said Wyand.
Both men are concerned about Andia's family's emotional and financial health now that he and his two paychecks are gone.
