RALEIGH (WTVD) -- An accident involving a truck working in an Interstate 40 work zone and another vehicle shut down eastbound lanes of the highway for several hours Wednesday morning.
The accident happened around 3:30 a.m. near exits 300 and 301 at Rock Quarry Road in Raleigh, between the I-40/440 split. It is unclear if anyone was injured.
Officials said the accident involved a contract worker for the North Carolina Department of Transportation working on the Fortify roadway project. The crash caused the truck to spill diesel fuel along the roadway. Crews worked for hours to clean up the scene. All lanes were reopened around 6:45 a.m.
Traffic was backed up for miles at the start of the morning commute.
