Memorial service to be held for slain teen

CARY The Peace Presbyterian Church in Cary says it will host the service at 4 p.m. The Silliman family has attended the church for the last seven years.

Matt was active member of the congregation. He participated in the youth group and was a member of the youth worship team. The Peace Presbyterian Church also hosted his Eagle Scout ceremony.

"A highly intelligent, highly creative, highly energetic young man with a great heart," Silliman's Eagle Scout project advisor Alan O'Neal said. "He was a great friend. He wasn't just another scout to me."

Instead of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in memory of Matt Silliman to Peace Presbyterian Church. Apex Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.

Aadil Shaaid Kahn, 17, Allegra Rose Dahlquist, 17, Drew Logan Shaw, 16, and Ryan Patrick Hare, 18, are accused of killing Silliman. A judge has ordered the teens to be held without bond.

According to Silliman's Facebook page, the suspects were all his friends.

Silliman was first reported missing by his parents on Nov. 26 and authorities had issued a Silver Alert for him. He was last seen less than 10 miles from the crime scene.

Medical examiners say they have not confirmed a cause of death. They are releasing few details, only saying the murder took place on Nov. 30.
