A section of roof about 30' x 50' fell on welders from B&W Welding who were there installing pillars to shore up the roof.
The Sandusky County EMA reported that several were trapped inside. One of the welders, Nate Kern, 35, died instantly in the incident. Crews worked to retrieve his body.
Two other victims were transported to Mercy Saint Vincent Medical Center in Toledo for treatment. Mark Keckler is listed in fair condition. Todd Michael, 44, is in serious condition. Michael is the welder who was trapped in the rubble for 4 hours. Crews moved Michael from an ambulance to the Life Flight helicopter, and it took off transporting him to Saint V's in Toledo.
Another victim, David Fisher, was treated and has since been released from the hospital.
Toledo, Fremont, Ballville Twp. and Woodville emergency crews responded to the scene. The Red Cross provided water and other supplies during the rescue efforts.
The company, established in 1905, manufactures ketchup, sauerkraut and Mississippi BBQ sauce.
