Alleged mall groper facing more charges

FAYETTEVILLE On Friday, police filed new charges against 34-year-old Jose Antonio Cruz, who was arrested last week after a woman flagged down a Fayetteville Police Officer on bike patrol at Cross Creek Mall saying she needed assistance.

The woman said Cruz, who worked at the mall, claimed he was hiring her and took her to a back room to fill out additional paperwork. She said he then began touching her inappropriately and assaulting her.

After reviewing surveillance video and other evidence in the case, police arrested and charged Cruz with second degree sexual offense, sexual battery and assault on a female.

He now faces new charges after another victim reported similar incidents on August 27, Sept. 9 and 14.

Cruz is now charged with three counts of second degree sexual offense and one count of second degree rape.

His bail has been set at $160,000.
