Durham police investigate shooting

DURHAM

It happened just after 2 p.m. at a home located in the 1100 block of Spruce Street in Durham, not far from where a drive-by shooting injured two children last weekend.

Authorities said when they arrived to the scene, they found 29-year-old Simeka Daughtridge with a gunshot wound to her chest. Daughtridge was transported to Duke University Hospital, but later died from her injuries.

Investigators said they are still trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are awaiting the results of forensic tests. They said the shooting does not appear to be a random incident.

Family member said the shooting may have been self-inflicted.

Neighbors told ABC11 that Daughtridge, her three children and mother lived inside the home where she was found.
