Police said the shooting take place just after midnight in the parking lot of the fast food restaurant at 11000 U.S. Highway 15/501.
When police arrived on the scene the victim had already been taken to Moore County Regional Hospital in a private vehicle. The victim was then airlifted to another hospital for further medical care. The victim's condition is unknown.
Investigators do not believe the shooting was related to a robbery attempt, but the incident is still under investigation.
