BATON ROUGE, La. (WTVD) -- The wife of a Baton Rouge police officer, who was gunned down in the line of duty in July, is pregnant.

She said her two young daughters knew before she did.

"And [my daughter] said, 'Mommy, I don't know why you're complaining, because you're pregnant!' I said 'Girl, hush, you don't say that kind of stuff,'" Gerald recalled. "She told me the same thing, however this time she told me that Jesus told her that there was a baby boy."

After a pregnancy test revealed the truth, Gerald said she felt like crying. But, she was also excited.

Her ultrasound revealed even more surprises - she said she can see the shape of a wedding ring in the image.

Gerald said when she saw that, she felt like her late husband was with her.

She now calls the pregnancy a gift he left behind.
