Durham council keeps BCBS
After considering a switch to Connecticut-based Aetna, the Durham Council voted to keep Blue Cross Blue Shield as the city's insurer

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Durham City Council voted on Monday to keep Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina as the city's health insurer.

Council members were considering ditching the hometown company for Connecticut-based Aetna, but some council members raised issues with Aetna's past.

In the 19th century, Aetna issued life insurance policies to slave owners that covered their slaves.
