Water main break shuts down Raleigh business, impacts traffic
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The Boylan Bridge Brewpub has been temporarily shut down after a water main break Wednesday morning on Hargett Street in Raleigh.
The owner tells ABC11 an interior wall inside a woodworking shop below the building collapsed. It is unclear how long the business will be closed.
"The entire wall just gave way in the middle and scattered 12-inch concrete blocks, 20-feet tall and 20-feet wide, all over my equipment and busted my big saw and my dust-collection system all to pieces," Andrew Leager said.
Minutes later, Leager said his shop was underwater.
"It started filling up the shop pretty quickly, and pretty soon it was six inches deep," he said.
Boylan Avenue between Hargett Street and DuPont Circle was closed to traffic and pedestrians for several hours.
Structural engineers and officials with the City of Raleigh are investigating the cause of the water main break.
They have declared the building unsafe.
There is no timeline for when it will reopen.
Leager now has to replace tens of thousands of dollars worth of damaged equipment.
"I avoided disaster by the skin of my teeth," he said.
