CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Cary Town Hall was under a brief lockdown Wednesday morning after police said a man carried a weapon into the building.
At 9:35 a.m., staff members reported interacting with a man who appeared to be carrying a long gun. Weapons are prohibited in Cary public buildings.
After speaking briefly to a staff member, the man, who was later identified as 43-year-old Khuong Cil, calmly left the building.
As he was leaving, however, Cil refused to comply with officers and bumped one with his vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Officers took Cil into custody minutes later at the intersection of Chapel Hill and Durham Roads. Further investigation revealed the gun was a BB gun. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
"Cary Town Hall employees did a great job in reacting to the situation based on their emergency training, and we appreciate everyone's participation in bringing this to a good conclusion for all," said Town of Cary Deputy Police Chief Tony Godwin.
Cil has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon upon a governmental officer, and prohibition of the carrying and display of handguns, firearms and other weapons at certain public locations. The charges carry a penalty of up to 43 months in jail. He was taken to the Wake County Public Safety Center.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Town of Cary Police Department at (919) 469-4012 or file a report anonymously with Cary Crime Stoppers at (919) 460-4636.
