Former Durham City Council member passes away

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Howard Clement III has passed away.

Clement was the longest serving member of the Durham City Council - serving for more than 30 years.

In a statement, Governor Pat McCrory said Durham and the community were beneficiaries of his dedication and service.

In 1971, Clement joined several others as a charter member of the WTVD Minority Advisory Committee.

Per his request, there will not be a funeral.

Clement was 82 years old.
