Holly Springs community collects toy donations for Duke Children's Hospital

ABC11 Together highlighting a community coming together this holiday season.

Hundreds of people came out to Ting Stadium in Holly Springs for a Christmas donations event on Saturday evening.

It was hosted by the Holly Springs Police Department and the Holly Springs High School Humanitarian club.

The groups collected new, unwrapped toys to deliver to children at Duke Children's Hospital.

Every year there are children who don't get to leave the hospital on Christmas, and the high school kids were hoping to brighten one of those children's day.

Free hot chocolate and cookies were given to folks who dropped off donations. There were also arts and crafts for the kids and a visit by the big guy, Santa (Not Don "Bigweather" Schwenneker).

Organizers plan to make this a yearly event.
