A man was seriously injured when he lost control of his vehicle Tuesday and crashed into the guardrail on Aviation Parkway at I-540 in Morrisville.
State troopers on the scene said the accident happened after the driver exceeded the speed limit and lost control of his red Pontiac Firebird. He overcorrected, hit the rail, spun out multiple times and was ejected onto the roadway.
Police identified the driver as 24-year-old Jeffrey Wade of Garner. He was taken to Duke Hospital with serious injuries.
Troopers said Wade did not appear to be wearing a seat belt.
No one else was hurt or involved in the crash.
Traffic was closed in one lane heading toward the airport from 540 and traffic was slowed in the other direction for much of the afternoon.
DOT had all lanes reopened by 5:15 p.m.
