Cumberland County deputy fired for allegedly selling ammunition

FAYETTEVILLE -- Cumberland County Sheriff Earl "Moose" Butler said Friday he has fired a deputy for allegedly stealing and selling department ammunition.

Lieutenant George Richard Newton III, 45, was terminated by the department Friday. He previously headed up department training.

Butler said he has referred the matter to the district attorney for possible criminal charges.
