JOHNSTON COUNTY (WTVD) -- A North Carolina Department of Transportation subcontract worker was struck by an SUV in a construction zone along Highway 70 in Johnston County Tuesday.

It happened around 11:30 a.m. at the Neuse River work zone between Oak Street and Bear Farm Road.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said 29-year-old Amber Nims of Clayton was headed west when she ran off the right shoulder and hit a guardrail. She then overcorrected and travelled back across the road and hit 47-year-old Mark Licius of Moneta, Virginia.

Licius was taken to WakeMed with minor injuries.

Nims was not hurt. She's charged with failure to maintain lane control.
