Durham police make arrest in fatal W. Markham Ave. shooting

DURHAM, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Durham police have made an arrest in a shooting that killed one man and injured a woman.

Officers said it happened before noon Saturday in the 600 block of West Markham Avenue.

According to police, a 19-year-old male and a 19-year-old female were taken to a local hospital with multiple gunshot injuries.

Officers said Christopher Hughes of Durham died Saturday evening. The injured woman has not been identified.

Now, Nyreese Cole, 29, of Durham, is charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

He is in the Durham County jail without bond.
