Singer Laura Reed has deep roots here in North Carolina, and this weekend she returns to the Triangle to celebrate the release of a brand new album.
When we caught up with Reed this week, she blew us away with an impromptu and soulful performance. She writes her songs from the heart, saying, "There's always a message behind all my music." She added that all the time she spent grounded in her room as a kid helped her develop her talent.
She's now getting the attention of some big-name artists like Alicia Keys, who used one of her songs in a film score.
Reed is fresh from a stint in Nashville, where she worked three years to perfect her latest album, "Awakening."
"Now that the album's done, it was time to come home," she said. "I get to share it with everybody I grew up with, and my family, and it's going to be an amazing show."
Check out Reed's show Friday night at the Pour House at 9 p.m.
