JOHNSTON COUNTY (WTVD) -- The Johnston County Sheriff's Office responded Thursday to a shooting on Waymon Way just off on Hood Farm Road.

Deputies discovered a man had been shot at the residence sometime around 7 p.m. He was taken to WakeMed in serious condition.

A suspect is in custody. He left the house but was arrested a short time later close to the crime scene.

Authorities say it was a domestic incident involving an older male "about the age of a father" and a male "young enough to be a son."

The sheriffs office would not elaborate or confirm whether the two were father and son.

Johnston County deputies investigate a shooting on Waymon Way.

Adriana Suarez has lived on Waymon Way for three years and said she did not know the family well, but did recall an encounter with them.

"I was walking my dog, and he happened to go like run out in their backyard," Suarez said. "(The alleged shooter) seemed kinda like 'who's on my property?' and he may have been like protective with a gun ... I wouldn't put anything on him, but that's the most I know. I kind of stayed away after that."

The identities of the victim and the man in custody have not been released.

The investigation is continuing. Late Thursday evening, the sheriff's office was awaiting a judge's signature on a search warrant to gain entry into the home.
