FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Authorities in Fayetteville have arrested a man in connection with sexual assault charges involving a child.
Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department say they were notified Saturday about a past sexual assault involving the child and a known family acquaintance that happened in the 5700 block of Pepperbush Drive, off Bingham Drive.
Police later arrested 38-year-old Michael Smith in connection with the crime. He is charged with statutory rape, sexual offense by a person in a parental role, and indecent liberties with a child.
Smith is currently in the Cumberland County Detention Center where he is being held under a $500,000 secured bond.
