Police catch up to man wanted in 2012 Fayetteville rape
FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- It took almost four years, but the Fayetteville Police Department caught up with a man they'd been seeking in connection with a sexual assault that happened in January 2012.
Daniel Roberto Hoppe, 25, was under investigation for the incident, which happened at a Jan. 16, 2012, party on Trevino Drive in Fayetteville. A 17-year-old girl at the party told police Hoppe sexually assaulted her that night.
During the course of the investigation, Hoppe disappeared.
The law finally caught up with him when FPD's Special Victims Unit got word that Hoppe was living in Kansas.
SVU detectives got in touch with police in Olathe, where Hoppe was reportedly living, and let them know there was a warrant out for him. The Olathe police verified that Hoppe was at the address provided by FPD, and then assisted the Johnson County Sheriff's Office in arresting Hoppe.
Hoppe is charged with second-degree rape and was returned to North Carolina on Tuesday by the Johnson County (Kansas) Sheriff's Office. He is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
