Apex home heavily damaged in fire

APEX, NC (WTVD) -- Fire heavily damaged a home in the 1200-block of Chimney Hill Drive near Smokewood Drive in Apex Tuesday morning.

Officials said a cyclist biking by spotted smoke coming from the attic area and phoned it in around 11:30 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, the flames were shooting through the roof. The attic and second floor of the home showed heavy fire damage.

No one was at home when the fire broke out. Two firefighters were slightly hurt by falling debris.
