Intruder shot in Gaston County home invasion

BESSEMER CITY, N.C. -- Police in Bessemer City say an intruder has been shot and killed during a home invasion.



Multiple media outlets reported that someone broke into a home around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and confronted the homeowner with a gun. During the struggle, a shot was fired.



Investigators said the man who broke into the home ran away, but was found a short time later and was taken to Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, where he died during surgery.



His name has not been released.



The shooting is still under investigation. No other details were immediately available.
