Fayetteville police shared his message on their Facebook page

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A radio call Friday night caught the attention of every Fayetteville police officer on duty.

Fayetteville Police Chief Harold Medlock took to the airwaves for his final transmission. He's retiring after 28 years in law enforcement -- four as the head of Fayetteville police.

The police department posted a video on their Facebook page of Medlock in a squad car as he radioed in.

Medlock sent a final message from a squad car. He announced his retirement earlier this year.

"I have completed my final assignment... and I am ending my tour of duty with the Fayetteville Police Department," he said in the video. "God bless the men and women of the Fayetteville Police Department. I pray your protection in His grace. You're all my heroes."

After that, the dispatcher and other officers gave their well-wishes and thanked him.

Anthony Kelly is taking over as interim police chief.
