FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- A crisis center to address issues, including excessive wait times at the Fayetteville VA, is now open.
The national headquarters of the American Legion, alongside volunteers and VA staff members, will help veterans schedule appointments, file claims and receive basic healthcare needs.
The Ramsey Street center, located at the American Legion Post 202, opened Tuesday at noon, and will remain open until 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday hours are 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
The crisis center is a part of a national tour led by the American Legion. Cities ranking worst in wait times through a recent VA audit are a part of the tour. Verna Jones, director of Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation for the American Legion, said Monday that veterans' concerns are also personally forwarded to VA leadership in each city.In a Monday evening town hall meeting at Post 202, Fayetteville VA director Elizabeth Goolsby also heard veterans' concerns.
Phoenix was the first stop in the American Legion tour, followed by Fayetteville. The group will head to El Paso next week.
