NEW YORK -- Police have arrested a homeless man they say pushed a stranger on a subway platform into the side of an oncoming train.

The incident happened at Penn Station around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities say 50-year-old Carl Smalls, who has 42 prior arrests, is facing charges.

Smalls allegedly pushed 53-year-old Richard Gang into the side of an E train, injuring his right arm.

The injury was not considered serious.

Smalls was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault.

His arraignment is pending a hospital evaluation.
