Intruder shot dead by Wilson homeowner identified

WILSON (WTVD) -- The Wilson Police Department has identified a man who was shot and killed after a homeowner said someone was trying to kick his door in early Monday.

It happened about 1:15 a.m. Monday in the 1900 block of Winoca Rd.

Police said the 71-year-old homeowner, Paul Morgan, told them he warned the man to stop kicking in his door and when he didn't, he fired through the door.

The burglary suspect was rushed to Wilson Medical Center for treatment after officers arrived, but he died of his injuries.

Police identified him as Haciel Plancarte Vasquez, 36, of the 1000 block of Randolph Street in Wilson.

After an investigation between police and the Wilson County District Attorney's Office, it was determined that Morgan will not be charged with any crime as a result of the incident.
