HOPE MILLS (WTVD) -- The ground has broken and by the end of the year the Hope Mills dam should be completed.
Shovels went into the dirt Thursday, and people are really excited to know equipment will be there working on the nearly $9 million project.
The old dam, which was a centerpiece in the town, failed back in the summer of 2010.

Hope Mills sued the designers and builders and ended up getting a settlement that will pay for the new construction.
The lake where the dam is being built is a popular place for town activities.
