Family worries about daughter's safety after she goes missing while heading to North Carolina
FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Law enforcement agencies up and down the East Coast are on the alert for a missing former soldier and Iraq War veteran.
Jerrica Jordan was supposed to arrive home in Fayetteville Sunday evening, but never showed up. Now, her family is frantic to find her.
Claude Jordan has no idea where his daughter is.
"We just want her back home," he said. "Just to know she is safe."
Jerrica Jordan got out of the military this past summer and lived for a time with friends in Hartford, Connecticut. Last Saturday night, she called her parents telling them she was on the way home.
"She has always called or texted me to let us know where she is", said Kristina Jordan, Jerrica's step-mother.
That's why the family is worried something serious may have happened to Jerrica.
Kristina Jordan said the last contact with her step-daughter was Sunday afternoon when Jerrica called to say she was back on the road after stopping to buy gas and food at a store near the Interstate 95 and Interstate 895 near Baltimore.
The family has now filed a nationwide missing person's report, and contacted law enforcement agencies along the Interstate. Jordan is driving a 2011 navy blue Nissan Altima.
"I have contacted North Carolina State Patrol, the Virginia Patrol, and Maryland Highway Patrol," said Kristina Jordan. "All they could tell me is that they have no accident or fatalities for her vehicle."
Meanwhile, the family is holding on to hope and each other, but the fear and nagging doubts get worse with each passing minute. They say Jerrica is a free spirit who never met a stranger.
"She was kind to everybody. She cares about people," said Kristina Jordan. "If you are hungry, she will feed you. If you need something, she will give it to you."
Jerrica's father said he has had to warn his daughter not to pick up hitchhikers. He and the family fear that Jerrica's generosity may have gotten her into jeopardy.
