RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Stanley Cup Final between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Vegas Golden Knights looks even in a lot of ways, with very little margin for error.

Vegas has won 12 of 16 games in the playoffs, including a sweep of Colorado in the West final, while Carolina has taken 12 of 13. They've allowed the third-fewest and fewest goals against, respectively, while each scoring more than three goals a game.

The action gets underway Tuesday night in the Lenovo Center.

Vegas quickly takes 4-3 lead in the third period

As they did in the second period, the Golden Knights roared out of the gate early in the third to grab a 4-3 lead.

Brett Howden beat Freddie Andersen a minute and 21 seconds into the period to give Vegas the lead.

Jordan Staal ties it up at 3-3

Down 3-2, the Carolina Hurricanes needed a lift, and captain Jordan Staal delivered, scoring a goal at 12:42 of the second period to tie the game at 3-3 and bring the crowd back to life.

K'Andre Miller and Jordan Martinook were credited with assists.

Vegas stuns Lenovo Center crowd, takes 3-2 lead on Canes.

Just when the Carolina Hurricanes looked to have control of the game, Vegas fired back early in the second period.

Ivan Barbashev scored past Freddie Andersen just 30 seconds into the period to tie the game, then William Karlsson gave the Golden Knights the lead at the 4:35 mark of the period.

It's just the second time this postseason that the Canes have allowed more than two goals.

Ehlers again, and Hurricanes lead Vegas 2-1

Nikolaj Ehlers has done it again.

After scoring the opening goal in 25 seconds, Ehlers struck again at 12:08 of the first period to give Carolina a 2-0 lead over the Golden Knights.

One minute and 20 seconds later, Vegas got on the board with a goal from Shea Theodore.

It's 201 with about 6 minutes left in the first period.
