Teen says she was mugged at Raleigh mall
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A Wake County teenager says she was violently attacked and robbed inside the Triangle Towne Center mall where she works.
It allegedly happened Tuesday afternoon. Nandi Meckee was on her lunch break and stopped by the Cinnabon store for something to eat.
The 17-year-old says a man became aggressive and then used force.
"I was kicked in the stomach," said Meckee. "He had his arms up. He swung at me, and I felt something on my face right here."
The teen tells ABC11 she doesn't know her attacker and never met him before.
Store manager Greg Hinnant told ABC11 he believes Meckee instigated the situation and is fabricating her story about what occurred.
The alleged attack was not caught on camera. The security camera inside Cinnabon is not working. Management at Triangle Towne Center said it does not have security cameras in common areas and never has.
Meckee's mom told ABC11 she is angry on multiple levels.
"Not only is not safe for customers shopping, but it's not even safe for their own employees. My daughter was on lunch break. She was on a break and this assault happened with her," said mom Nicole Watkins.
Mackey said her purse was taken and there was about $150 worth of graduation money inside. She recently earned her diploma from Wake Forest High School and is planning on going to North Carolina A&T this fall.
"I earned that money for graduating and going through four years. Having someone take that from you because they haven't earned it themselves, it's just really selfish," said Meckee.
Nobody has been arrested.
A report has been filed and Raleigh police are investigating.
