RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Authorities said a man and a woman were fatally injured in a Raleigh shooting early Friday morning.
Shortly before 1:40 a.m., police officers were called to Trawick Road at New Bern Avenue about shots being fired.
When they arrived, they found a car in the middle of the road. Rakim Marquis Lofton, 22, was declared dead at the scene. The woman, 21-year-old Khadijah Shantell Carney, was taken to WakeMed where she was declared dead.
Further details surrounding the shooting have not been released.
Trawick Road was closed between New Bern Avenue and Lake Woodard Drive as authorities investigated the incident. The road was reopened around 10:30 a.m.
Due to the open, highly-visible nature of the crime scene, detectives think there could be people who heard or saw things that they have not yet conveyed to the police. That would include anyone who was in the area and witnessed anything related to the shooting or saw unusual activity in the vicinity before, during or after the time of the shooting, along with anyone with any other helpful information.
