ASHEBORO, N.C. -- The North Carolina Zoo will remain closed for a second day as crews continue to remove fallen trees and other debris left behind after a severe storm.

Officials say the storm Thursday had strong winds and hail, knocking down dozens of trees across all the service roads and many walkways at the zoo near Asheboro.

Authorities say no animals or people were hurt, but there also was damage to signs, fences, glass doors and outdoor furniture.

The zoo was closed Friday and will be closed again Saturday.

Officials say they will open the North America Region on Sunday and charge half-price admission. The Africa exhibit will remain closed Sunday because it suffered the most damage.
