SOUTHERN PINES (WTVD) -- Southern Pines police have made an arrest in a Christmas Eve homicide.
Dayton Devauen Knight, 25, of Southern Pines was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, violation of probation and trespassing.
Knight is charged in the shooting death of Jocquis Rashad Alston, 21, of Southern Pines.
The incident happened at Timberlane Apartments, 194 Murray Hill Road in Southern Pines.
Knight is being held without bond at the Moore County Detention Facility.
Southern Pines Police Chief Robert Temme acknowledged the Aberdeen Police Department, Moore County Sheriff's Office, Pinehurst Police Department and the Division of Adult Correction and Juvenile Justice for playing an important role in the investigation that led to Knight's arrest.
However, the investigation remains active and ongoing, police said.
