3 students charged after Confederate flag incident

BRUNSWICK COUNTY (WTVD) -- Students who put the Confederate Battle Flag on display in a high school courtyard are facing criminal charges.



According to Brunswick County Schools spokeswoman Jessica Swencki, several West Brunswick High School students were involved in the incident. She said they put the Confederate Battle Flag on display in the school's courtyard and then wore it as a cape. The incident turned into a viral social media post.



As reported by WWAY, Brunswick County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Emily Flax said three misdemeanor criminal summons were issued from the incident. Two students also involved were juveniles, so they were not charged.



The three students were charged with disorderly conduct.
