Fayetteville State parts ways with basketball coach
FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Fayetteville State University will begin the search for a new men's basketball coach.
The school announced Tuesday that it had "mutually agreed" to part ways with head coach Alphonza Kee.
"I want to thank Fayetteville State University for providing the opportunity to serve as head men's basketball coach and an instructor over the past seven years," Kee said in a statement. "With the leadership in place, I am certain the university will reach their goals. As an alumnus, I'm excited about the future of FSU men's basketball."
In seven seasons with the Broncos, Kee compiled an overall record of 91-105 and a CIAA mark of 47-70.
FSU had an overall mark of 14-15 during the 2015-16 season, going 8-10 in conference play. The Broncos won two games in the CIAA Tournament before closing the season with a 71-57 loss to Virginia State.
Kee was selected the CIAA Men's Basketball Coach of the Year for the 2013-14 season when he led the Broncos to a 19-10 mark and 10-6 in conference.
"Fayetteville State University is appreciative of the dedication and support Coach Kee and his staff have made to our men's basketball program and the young men he has coached." said Director of Athletics Anthony Bennett.
Associate head men's basketball coach Corey Thompson will serve as the interim head coach. The university said it will begin a search for a new head men's basketball coach immediately.
