A man is accused of assaulting a detention officer.

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- An inmate who is a suspect in a murder case is in more legal trouble after authorities say he attacked a detention officer.



Bruce Lawrence Master was charged on Friday with felony assault on a detention facility employee.



Master is in jail pending trial for the June 2015 robbery and murder of Derek Jones on Dominion Road in Fayetteville.



Master was being held on a $250,000.00 secured bond when he allegedly assaulted detention officer Daniel Adams.



Adams was struck in the face several times with a closed fist causing lacerations. Adams was taken to Cape Fear Valley Health Systems for treatment.



Master will have a first appearance before a District Court Judge on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
