Sheriff's Office investigates drowning in Hyco Lake

PERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Person County Sheriff's Office is investigating a drowning at the Hyco Lake Recreation Area.

Hyco Lake authorities confirmed the drowning happened Sunday afternoon, just before 12:30 p.m..

Officials said the victim's name was Angel Alberto Alvarez Garcia. His age was not released.

Garcia was with his girlfriend, authorities said. His girlfriend, who was not identified, yelled for help but couldn't get to him in time.

Authorities said they do not believe alcohol was a factor.
