Almost 10 bucks for gas?
Almost 10 bucks for gas? It's enough to make you drive off the road. But it's not exactly what it seems.

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Are you seeing a spike in gas prices out there? How about gas for $9.99 per gallon?

Yes, you read that right. And there is an explanation.

A Sheetz gas station in King, N.C., had a sign showing gas at nearly 10 bucks a gallon. So did a Marathon gas station in the Triangle.

The NC Attorney General's Office did look into a consumer complaint about that Sheetz and a company rep said the station reported that it had posted that price when it ran out of gas -- perhaps to scare people away?

The rep said no customer had actually been charged that price.

So if you see a sign showing gas at $9.99 per gallon, it probably means the station has run out of fuel.
