North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper in Sampson County crash

N.C. Trooper involved in serious crash
The crash happened around 2 p.m. Thursday.

FAISON, N.C. (WTVD) -- A North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper has been involved in a crash on Highway 403 near I-40 in Sampson County east of Faison.

A picture from the scene courtesy of WITN-TV shows the trooper's cruiser with heavy front-end damage. The other car, a 2010 Subaru operated by Thomas J. Gauthier, 59, appeared to have side damage from a t-bone type impact.

The trooper has been identified as S.B. Lewis.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. Thursday.

Both drivers were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.

Investigators said Gauthier rolled through a stop sign into the trooper's path.

Gauthier has been charged with a stop sign violation.
