Hiker and two dogs rescued
A woman who went missing on a hike has been rescued after spending three nights in the wilderness

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. -- A resourceful hiker may have survived in the wilderness with her two dogs for three nights on mushrooms and tree bark.

Friends told police that 21-year-old Paula Reuter set out for a casual hike and wasn't likely prepared to be in the wilderness overnight, according to KOMO, the ABC Affiliate in Seattle.

Detective Jason Stanley credited Reuter's survival skills with keeping her alive until she was found.

"She ate some mushrooms. She maybe even ate some tree bark," he said. The dogs, meanwhile, survived on beef jerky Reuter had brought along on her hike.

The group was finally found and airlifted to safety Thursday afternoon. Police used a photo Reuter posted on Instagram before she went missing to determine her location at that time, which helped start the search.
