Pedestrian hit on I-440 between New Bern Avenue and I-495

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A person was hurt in an accident involving a pedestrian on I-440 eastbound between New Bern Avenue and I-495 Thursday night.

Investigators said it happened just before 9 p.m. when a car broke down in the center lane and another car stopped to help.

A third vehicle then ran into one of the others - striking the person who came to help.

A crash reconstruction team was there and multiple lanes were closed while they did their work.

Police said the person did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
